2 firefighters hurt in large house fire in St. Tammany

Two firefighters were hurt while battling the flames. They were taken to the hospital via Acadian Ambulance but are back home and expected to make a full recovery.

BUSH, La. – Two firefighters were hurt after a large house fire in Bush, La. on New Year’s Day.

According to the St. Tammany Fire District 9, the fire was reported around 4:30 p.m. and wasn’t extinguished until around midnight. Photos of the scene shared on Facebook show flames fully engulfing the roof of the building.

“We risk our safety to protect our community, most of the time with good results. Last night could have been so much worse, we were lucky…this time,” the fire district shared on Facebook.

Firefighters say the residents escaped from the home before the flames grew too large.

Three on-duty St. Tammany firefighters were assisted by 14 volunteers and crews from STFD 6 and 7 as well as Washington Parish Fire District 7.
